Workplace Climate Assessment
Use when asked to administer, score, or explain a Workplace Climate Assessment — organizational culture and psychological safety measured with a normalized Likert-scale index — grounded in FormExamples/form-examples; related to workplace-stress-assessment and workplace-safety-assessment.
Workplace climate assessment measuring organizational culture, psychological safety, and employee experience using a validated Likert-scale instrument, to inform leadership, inclusion, and wellbeing programmes.
Scoring
Instrument: Workplace Climate Index (Likert-scale 1–5 per item). Range 0–100 (normalized composite).
- Thriving (85–100) — strong, inclusive, psychologically safe climate.
- Healthy (70–84) — generally positive with minor areas for growth.
- Developing (50–69) — mixed climate with several improvement areas.
- Strained (25–49) — concerning climate requiring targeted intervention.
- Critical (0–24) — severely unhealthy climate requiring urgent leadership action.
What it covers
Demographics; leadership and management; psychological safety; inclusion and belonging; communication; collaboration and teamwork; recognition and reward; wellbeing; career development; and overall climate with recommendations.
Common pitfalls
- Reading the composite score without checking domain-level variance — a "Healthy" overall score can mask one severely weak domain (e.g. psychological safety) that a composite number averages away; review domain scores individually, not just the total.
- Treating a single survey wave as conclusive — climate surveys are most useful tracked over time; a single snapshot is harder to act on than a trend showing whether interventions are working.
- Surveying without a credible plan to act on results — a workplace climate assessment that produces no visible follow-through erodes trust and lowers response quality/rates on future surveys.
