Scoring
Instrument: REBA. Range 1–15.
- 1 — negligible risk, no action required.
- 2–3 — low risk, change may be needed.
- 4–7 — medium risk, further investigation and change soon.
- 8–10 — high risk, investigate and implement change.
- 11–15 — very high risk, implement change immediately.
What it covers
Demographics; workstation setup; posture assessment; repetitive tasks; manual handling; current symptoms; medical history; current interventions; psychosocial factors; and recommendations with an action plan.
Common pitfalls
- Scoring a single static posture rather than the actual task sequence — REBA is meant to capture the postures actually used during real work, including awkward transient postures, not just a "typical" resting position.
- Ignoring psychosocial factors because the tool is body-mechanics focused — workload pace, job control, and stress materially affect musculoskeletal risk and reported symptoms even at an identical REBA score.
- Treating a low REBA score as ruling out risk from repetitive tasks — REBA captures posture and load at a point in time; high- frequency, low-force repetitive tasks can still cause injury even at a favorable single-posture score.
