# Gynecology Assessment

Gynaecological symptom assessment covering menstrual history, cervical
screening, obstetric history, and sexual health.

## Scoring

**Instrument:** Symptom Severity Score — a composite score based on
symptom frequency, intensity, and clinical significance.

## What it covers

Demographics; chief complaint; menstrual history; gynaecological
symptoms; cervical screening status; obstetric history; sexual health;
medical history; current medications; and family history.

## Common pitfalls

- **Treating cervical screening status as a side note** — screening
history and any overdue screening should be actively checked and
addressed as part of a routine gynaecological review, not left
  implicit.
- **Assuming symptom severity alone determines urgency** — some
gynaecological red flags (postmenopausal bleeding, unexplained pelvic
mass) warrant urgent investigation regardless of how "severe" the
symptom feels to the composite score.
- **Skipping sexual health in a general symptom review** — sexual
health history is frequently under-asked unless explicitly structured
into the assessment, despite being clinically relevant to many
  gynaecological presentations.
