- **Eligibility:** Suitable / Conditionally suitable / Unsuitable.
- **Risk level:** Low (ideal match, healthy, no comorbidities),
  Moderate (minor issues, manageable conditions), High (partial match,
  borderline fitness, significant comorbidities), Critical
  (contraindicated, serious health risks, poor match).

## Common pitfalls

- **Skipping psychological readiness** — donation (particularly bone

  assessing willingness and understanding matters alongside physical
  eligibility.
- **Treating a partial HLA match as automatically disqualifying** —
  match quality is one factor among several; the eligibility
  classification weighs it against overall donor health and the
  clinical urgency of the recipient's need.
- **Not distinguishing collection methods early** — peripheral blood
  stem cell donation and bone marrow harvest have different anaesthetic
  and physical-fitness requirements; the assessment should clarify which
  method applies before finalizing fitness criteria.
